“I have ordered that all the military means that are needed for an effective and modern force be purchased for the public forces,” said the president
Through his account on the social network X, Colombian President Gustavo Petro has ordered the start of the rearmament processes of the Colombian Military Forces, as part of the development of the so-called political/military strategy Total Peace.
In this sense, the president said: “I have ordered that all the military means that are necessary for an effective and modern force be purchased for the public forces.”
According to the president, the Military Forces have suffered a progressive weakening in their capabilities, because in the last twelve years they have stopped investing about 9,400,000,000 dollars. In addition, Petro pointed to the purchase of Russian-made helicopters on the ground today, low-quality Israeli material, as well as obsolete fighter jets and equipment not suitable for the topographical characteristics of this nation, as examples of mismanagement.
However, the official did not specify the systems or equipment to be acquired, nor the processes that are projected for such purposes. It should be recalled that during the current administration, contracts have been signed for the purchase of deterrent means for the Army for values of approximately 407 million dollars, for the Navy for amounts close to 410 million dollars, for the Air Force for 228 million dollars and for the Police has been invested in 20 million dollars. In addition, the purchase of a new fighter jet was announced in a process estimated at 2500 million dollars.
